Lonely Nights Poem

Matthew Henrickson Poetry

Lonely Nights
by Matthew Henrickson

The lonliness of nights make for dreary days
Im ready to close this chapter, this phase
The emptiness of my bed screams in my ear
Reaching out and feeling no one near

I don’t miss love
I don’t miss that pain
I don’t miss fighting
I don’t miss the lies

I miss the lust
I miss the comfort
I miss the conversation
I miss the affection

I don’t want to do it alone, I’ve already tried
Day after day I try to bring back my heart that died
I don’t need you, but I want someone
I want someone, but not you.

Never Again

Matthew Henrickson Poetry

I have no memory writing this and I found it randomly, but the end is pretty decent.

Never Again

I remember when I was young
I always liked girls
Each year
One special girl
Received a gift from me
And she knew she was mine

They were always so ‘cute’
They were what I liked
Deep down
I’ve always been
A ladies man.

The first one broke my heart
And showed me what it was like
And so did the next
Until I became that guy

The one who will like you
But never love
The one who will always be your friend
But never go above

The one always hurting
Needing someone there
The one always deep in pain
The one affected
Never feeling the same
Ever again

Our Destiny

Matthew Henrickson Poetry

Our Destiny
by Matthew Henrickson

I thought you were going to be the answer
To my mistakes
Time was never in our favor
We could never do what it takes
I thought this time around
It might be different
This time around
We would create a different sound

One of happiness, maybe completion
Instead we’ve fallen more apart
Almost deletion.

Time has created
Too much time apart
We are so far from
The beginning and the start.

I thought you would be my answer
My antidote to pain
I thought you would bring
My life back from insane.
I thought we could be…
The destiny…
But was that…
What we were meant to be?

I’m Invincible

Matthew Henrickson Poetry

I’m Invincible
by Matthew Henrickson

I want to thank you.
Thank you for breaking my heart
For breaking me.
Now no one can touch me
I’m Invincible!

No pain can compare to what you’ve done to me
No ‘mistake’ can take me there again
No person will ever be as close
No complete trust in another

Every word spoken, I assume is a lie
Every truth has to be proven first
Every I love you I take with a question mark
Every wound is like a cut, compared to yours

I thank you for taking me to a place…
That I will never allow myself to go again.

Tortured Heart

Matthew Henrickson Poetry

Tortured Heart

My words don’t matter
Regardless how they come out
Organized into lines
They mean nothing.
The words can’t describe
How I feel inside

Before I could write about the darkness
The pain, the nightmares, the broken heart
What I feel now, has no words.
Broken hearts can heal
Mine continues to go through that pain
No closure, the same thing everyday.

It’s as if it gets thrown against a wall
Almost to the top, almost over and through
At the last minute it gets ripped down
Hitting everything it can on the way to the bottom
But It doesn’t hit the ground…
Only to be picked and thrown again.

The torture is unbearable..
Having you but not truly
Wanting you but more than you want me
Loving you, and you loving me..
Not enough.

The I’m Sorry Game Poem

Matthew Henrickson Poetry

The I’m Sorry Game
December 18th, 2010

It was hard to say I was sorry
I did my best to show you
After all I put you through
To prove that my love was true.

Now I feel I need the same
Take some responsibility and blame,
But now it’s your turn to play…
The I’m sorry game.

Prove your love
Go above and beyond
Make me feel like I used to
Way before you were gone

Give me the fight
The effort, the desire
Don’t leave me out in the cold
Bring back the fire.

Ignite what it used to be
Save it for just you and me
After all we’ve been through
I know all I need is you

Pitch Black Night

Matthew Henrickson Poetry

Pitch Black Night

I thought I was tested enough
To see if our love was real
I went to the deepest and darkest place
Waiting for you
To pull me back

In the light again with you
Completing my heart
Making my life whole
Without you something is missing
The world just isn’t right
Without you,
Everyday is like a Pitch Black Night

I accepted you as you are
Even if it wasn’t perfect
Forgiving you for leaving me that way
For breaking me in half
Now once you have finally made me whole again
You want to take it all away.

Phantom Heart Poem

Matthew Henrickson Poetry

Phantom Heart

I know I had the real thing once
It belonged to me
I did my best to protect it
Until it escaped me

I didn’t know I lost it right away
The appearance remained to stay
Your phantom heart was there
While your real one left one day

Your phantom heart still beats for me
Or the illusion continues to be
The one that is here right now
Is not real at all, even though it pretends to be

I love you more than love
But my love appears to be blind
If it’s not me you love
And I’m not the one on your mind

Then it’s time to end this race
Because in the game of love
There is no second place

I Can Be

Matthew Henrickson Poetry

I Can Be…

You don’t know what you want,
which is now my problem
I can be the asshole who treats you like shit
I can be the jerk you want to hit
I can be the dick you love to hate
Or I can be the funny guy on a date

I can be whoever you need
I can be the one who takes the lead
I can be nice and just about you
I can never lie and always be true

Or I can be me
And treat you the way you should be
Knowing the best words to say
The best things to do
Always being there, to take care of you.

I can be your world
I can be all you need
I can be the one
You just have to let me.

Risking My Heart

Matthew Henrickson Poetry

Risking My Heart

The idea is nice, until reality sinks in
For you it’s not if, but when
I can only go on so long
With the dream that we belong together
I can’t wait until your ready
I don’t know if you will ever be.
You promise me the world,
That I don’t know if we will ever see.

You ask for time that I’ve already lost
You want to find yourself, at my hearts cost
It’s about you until your ready for me
But how long will it take you to truly see?
You are risking love, you’ve been risking my heart
And you continue to, the longer we are apart.

It’s this life or the next
It’s me or them
It comes down to one decision
It comes down to time
And if in time, you can’t make that decision
It will be made for you.
And we will be lost forever.
