I Carry Your Heart With Me by E.E Cummings

Famous Poetry

“i carry your heart with me”
By E.E. Cummings

i carry your heart with me (i carry it in
my heart) i am never without it (anywhere
i go you go, my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing, my darling)
i fear
no fate (for you are my fate, my sweet) i want
no world (for beautiful you are my world, my true)
and it’s you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows
higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that’s keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart (i carry it in my heart)

ATL Movie Poem Loves Deceit by Big Rube

Famous Poetry

Update: Many people seem to know the general idea, but still don’t fully get it. I wrote my own Interpretation of Loves Deceit. I tried to break it down the best I could and understood.

If you’ve seen ATL you know it has a dramatic ending. “Uncle George” recites a nice poem called Loves Deceit by Big Rube. Big Rube is a rapper from Atlanta and has done more poetry on ATL and other places.

“Love’s Deceit”

Pleasure turns to the pain of lessons learned from the strain of the questions burned in my brain about whether love is humane in its touch
These thoughts are like salmon swimming upstream in the tears of your deceit
Fighting a current hurt that kills more than is created by the chaos of our intertwined emotions
Chaotic because the anchor of Eros’ arrow has been plucked from the vessel of my undying infatuation
Separation not as simple as the distance between us
My mind no longer possessed by the demons that had been the overseers of my enslavement to your lies
The seeds of these lies rooted so deeply they’ve cracked the foundation of what we once shared
Allowing the faith in us I had sealed inside to gush out like a river
Ripping the image of our future together from my thoughts as violently and as brutally as if it were a child being taken from its mothers arms
I’m left surrounded in darkness but I refuse to be swallowed by it
My loneliness like night air; invisible to the eye obvious to the touch, in its cold uncomfortable ness
Yet If I could do all over again I’d do it in the same skin I’m in
To lay down and let love die, just stay down and let love lie
No, no, no, no, not I
I’ll stay around and let love fly
Even though I’ve seen its darkest form; deceit
Nothing else could tastes this warm or feel this sweet

by Big Rube

Listen to the poem on Youtube.

I Am Offering This Poem by Jimmy Santiago Baca

I Am Offering This Poem by Jimmy Santiago Baca

I am offering this poem to you,
since I have nothing else to give.
Keep it like a warm coat,
when winter comes to cover you,
or like a pair of thick socks
the cold cannot bite through,

I love you,

I have nothing else to give you,
so it is a pot full of yellow corn
to warm your belly in the winter,
it is a scarf for your head, to wear
over your hair, to tie up around your face,

I love you,

Keep it, treasure it as you would
if you were lost, needing direction,
in the wilderness life becomes when mature;
and in the corner of your drawer,
tucked away like a cabin or a hogan
in dense trees, come knocking,
and I will answer, give you directions,
and let you warm yourself by this fire,
rest by this fire, and make you feel safe,

I love you,

It’s all I have to give,
and it’s all anyone needs to live,
and to go on living inside,
when the world outside
no longer cares if you live or die;
remember,

I love you.

I strongly recommend reading No Place to Stand. I just finished reading it for the second time, it made me love Jimmy all over again. I’ve posted another great poem from him titled Who Understands Me But Me.

I’ll Dream Of You by Antwone Fisher

Antwone Fisher Poems, Famous Poetry

I’ll Dream Of You

I’ll dream of you… I must.
I kneel and pray, for time that we can never share
Still, I feel I must.

I love you for reasons… I cannot understand,
you were once mine… all mine.
You brought much happiness to my life, it meant so much…
you mean so much.

For all the days of your life, when you’re lonely,
think of me.
I will remember you always…
With love.

Before You by Antwone Fisher

Antwone Fisher Poems, Famous Poetry

Before You

Before you, I felt no reason minute after minute…
hour after hour…

Before you, I seemed no purpose day after day…
night after night…

I knew not the joy a true love could bring
week after week…
and month after month…

Now year after year, you bring happiness a bliss I never knew…

before you.

A Dream Within a Dream

Famous Poetry

A Dream Within a Dream

Take this kiss upon the brow!
And, in parting from you now,
Thus much let me avow-
You are not wrong, who deem
That my days have been a dream;
Yet if hope has flown away
In a night, or in a day,
In a vision, or in none,
Is it therefore the less gone?
All that we see or seem
Is but a dream within a dream.

I stand amid the roar
Of a surf-tormented shore,
And I hold within my hand
Grains of the golden sand-
How few! yet how they creep
Through my fingers to the deep,
While I weep- while I weep!
O God! can I not grasp
Them with a tighter clasp?
O God! can I not save
One from the pitiless wave?
Is all that we see or seem
But a dream within a dream?

The Road Not Taken

Famous Poetry

The Road Not Taken

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

Beautiful Words by Antwone Fisher

Antwone Fisher Poems, Famous Poetry

With all the beautiful words, I’ve not yet learned to say how I love you…”I do love you, with all my heart, I adore you truly.”

These perfect days we spend in love have me spellbound. What more is there to life? There is only you. I wish only that we never part… and that I die; before you.

In The Event of My Demise by Tupac Shakur

Famous Poetry, Tupac Shakur Poems

In The Event of My Demise

In the event of my demise
When my heart can beat no more
I hope I die for a principle
Or a belief that I had live for.

I will die before my time,
Because I feel the shadow’s depth
So much I wanted to accomplish
Before I reached my death.

I have come to grips with the possibility
And wiped the last tear from my eyes
I loved all who were positive
In the event of my demise!

Cupids Smiles and Crys by Tupac Shakur

Famous Poetry, Tupac Shakur Poems

I recently checked out Tupac Shakur’s book of poetry, The Rose That Grew from Concrete. All in all the poems were good, but I had a few favorites.

The Tears in Cupid’s Eyes

The day you chose to leave me
It rained constantlly outside
In truth I swore the rain to be
The tears in Cupid’s eyes.

Cupid’s Smile II

I ran outside to feel the rain
and I stayed outside awhile
When the rain was done, along came the sun
and that was Cupid’s smile!

The two poems are short, but catchy and have to go together.
