My Truth; Your Lies

Matthew Henrickson Poetry

“My Truth; Your Lies”
Friday

My truth for you
Has always been a lie
My stories have been just that,
A story.
A tale, a tale
And my life, just a laugh.

You never believe the honesty
You never believe the truth
You never believe the story
You never believe my heart.

At some point you stopped listening
Listening to what is real
To my story
To what is true.

You’ve made up your mind
The beginning, The lie
And you’ve already decided the outcome
Before I even opened my mouth.

My words have become meaningless
Why speak?

By Matthew Henrickson

I don’t have a date on this, just calling it a friday. It could be any of the fridays previously from this poem to the last, you pick. You don’t have to believe me…

Overwhelmed

Matthew Henrickson Poetry

And It... Overwhelms Me

Overwhelmed
Written October 7th, 2008

As my body cries
My soul dies
As my heart shatters
And my teeth chatters
The coldness overwhelms me.

As my tears fall
My cheeks burn
As my head pounds
My ears ring
And the darkness overwhelms me.

As I bleed inside
My stomach turns
Aching with pain
My hands can only shake
The pain overwhelms me.

Falling To Pieces

Matthew Henrickson Poetry

Puzzle Pieces
Falling To Pieces
August 22nd, 2008

Frustration eating me inside and out
Trying to keep it together
As I slowly fall apart
The cracks in my soul show through
As if my entire body was cut in half
Then again.

Picking myself up as I go
Trying to keep it together
All in one piece.
But those pieces of me are crumbling on the floor
Barely keeping it in.
I can’t put the pieces back together
Of the puzzle
That has become my life.

I can’t keep it together.
Until I explode,
Dropping all of those pieces.
In turn losing myself
And You.

Uncertainty

Matthew Henrickson Poetry

Uncertainty
August 5th, 2008

My life is made up of
permanence from past
with no promises
for today.
Never know what type of day
Always uncertain.
Uncertain whether
I will wake up the next day
or, if I’ll even want to.

Constant Pain

Matthew Henrickson Poetry

Constant Pain
August 5th 2008

The only thing in life
That is constantly pain
Is love.
Love is never perfect.
It too
Is always uncertain.

Permanent

Matthew Henrickson Poetry

Permanent
August 5th, 2008

The only thing in life
That is permanent
Is the past.
Today is never promised
And tomorrow
Is always uncertain.

by Matthew Henrickson

I wanted it to be longer, but it looked finished to me. Even tattoos aren’t permanent anymore.

On The Trigger

Matthew Henrickson Poetry

On The Trigger
…On The Trigger
July 13th, 2008

Your hand on my throat
My hand on the gun
My finger on the trigger
Pointed at me.

Your eyes in my heart
My heart in your heart
My tears on my cheek
Your tears on the floor
Standing next to me
As you let go of my throat
Your eyes leave my heart
My heart leaves yours
My hand off the gun
but my finger pulls the trigger.

Don’t Be Mad

Matthew Henrickson Poetry

Don’t Be Mad
July 10th, 2008

Don’t be mad, that it’s over now
It’s time to go, I’ve been waiting
Don’t be mad
You didn’t try hard enough
And gave up too soon
I’ve been trying enough
Don’t be mad
That you forgot what was important
And was too selfish to see
I didn’t.
Don’t be mad
That your heart is broken
And that you blame me
I have a broken heart too.
Don’t be mad that it’s too late
You let too much time go by
You can’t go back and change it
I wouldn’t.
Don’t be mad

Nothing Lasts Forever

Matthew Henrickson Poetry

Nothing Lasts Forever

Nothing Lasts Forever
July 9th, 2008

Nothing lasts for always
It takes forever
Too long to survive time
Too hard to live that long
My heart too small to be devoted to you
Too selfish to try
I can’t give it to you
I can’t be yours always.

Nothing lasts forever.

When I tried I was naive
You turned your back to the gesture
Because it wasn’t enough.
It wasn’t a promise I could keep
It wasn’t for always
It couldn’t be forever.

Nothing lasts forever.

Empty

Matthew Henrickson Poetry

Empty
June 28th, 2008

I hate looking out the window
Waiting for you to come home
I can’t stand to wait
How long you’ll take
To come back to me.

All I see is an empty space
Where you need to be
I keep waiting for it to get better
For you not to be so mad

I’ll no longer stand by that window
Looking out for you
Checking the time
As the hours go by.

There won’t be this empty space
